A HEREFORDSHIRE business has won a Great British Food Award.

Dunkertons cider has won the gold cider award for their organic vintage cider.

The beverage was judged by Raymond Blanc OBE, a French chef known for making multiple television appearances on programmes such as Masterchef.

Mr Blanc described the vintage cider as: “The most interesting tasting, complex and mature cider in the category.

“Very nice balance of flavours creating a traditional tasting cider.

“The little processes like the 12-month maturation, using freshly picked apples all come together to make this a well put together cider.”

Dunkertons was founded in 1980 when Ivor and Susie Dunkerton decided to move from London and buy a small holding in Pembridge. The company soon became well-known for creating cider without using concentrates or chemicals, sourcing their apples from across the three counties.

In 2014 Mr and Mrs Dunkerton passed the business on to their son, the Superdry co-founder Julian Dunkerton.

Whilst there is still a Dunkertons shop in the county, the production end of the business relocated to a cidery in Dowdeswell Park, Cheltenham in 2016.
