THE nationwide ‘Running out of Time’ climate relay is set to arrive in Hereford tomorrow.

Covering a total of 2,661km, the climate relay is running from Ben Nevis to Big Ben, with a special welcome planned at The Courtyard in Hereford on June 30.

The baton will arrive from Victoria Bridge to meet a welcome party including local schoolchildren, councillors, and more.

The baton will join a ‘climate convoy’ as part of its 2,661km journey from Ben Nevis to Big Ben – and will also celebrate the climate action work of a number of Herefordshire organisations and schools.

The convoy will start in Hereford at 11am tomorrow, departing from Victoria Bridge.

It will head along the Great Western Way, cheered along by local schoolchildren, and to the Courtyard in Edgar Street.

Running out of Time co-founder Jamie Hay said: “I’m really looking forward to bringing the Running Out of Time Relay to my home county. The relay has travelled over 1,700km so far on its 2,661km journey from Ben Nevis to Big Ben and, in Herefordshire, we have so many fantastic climate action projects taking place across the region.

“We hope to use this moment in the relay to help celebrate the work already being done, shine a light on it and hopefully inspire others to follow suit and keep the pressure on our governments, our employers, our places of learning and ourselves to take collective action to look after our planet.

“The relay will use the power of sport to literally connect the many incredible projects taking place with an unbroken chain of participants.”

The nationwide Climate Relay has seen thousands take up the baton to inspire the nation to take collective action to reach net zero and protect our natural world.

The first runner began the 32-day relay from the heights of Ben Nevis, and runners, walkers, wheelers, cyclists, rowers, swimmers, surfers and even skiers will be taking part across 35 UK counties.
