Residents' concerns over parking problems in Much Marcle

Julie Lunt has written to the landlord Platform Housing on behalf of residents in Glebe Orchard in Much Marcle, between Ledbury and Ross-on-Wye.

She says a lack of parking for bungalows in the street has left residents parking on a grass verge.

This in turn means there is little to no room left for paramedics, carers and other visitors to park their vehicles.

“Residents have been trying over the years to get help with this situation and Platform Housing has been no help whatsoever,” said Ms Lunt.

“I have not been a resident here very long but have decided to take on the issue myself and hopefully get the situation sorted.”

An open letter to Platform Housing chief executive Elizabeth Froude, signed by a number of residents, said: “We are all very dissatisfied with the assistance we have had regarding lighting and parking for the bungalow area."

'Cars get stuck on grass verges'

“We are told to contact the council with reference to the lighting and the parking, nothing has ever been followed up and as CEO of the company we will expect you to approach them with regard to these urgent matters," the letter added.

“We are unsure of who owns the central grass area and the grass areas by the parking and feel that as a company you should be chasing these matters up and in turn helping your tenants, many of whom are elderly or disabled.

“It has become apparent that if a district nurse, ambulance worker or indeed relatives come to visit there is absolutely no space for them to park. Residents themselves are having to park on the grass areas.

“Parking on grass areas is causing the ground to become very unstable with lots of mud and holes which in turn looks unsightly, cars get stuck and residents with disabilities or unstable due to age can not safely get in or out of their vehicles.”

Residents are asking for at least four more parking spaces to be created in the street.

A Platform Housing spokesperson said: "We have been made aware of the parking issues at this location due to the design and we have considered a range of options in relation to this and the constraints.

"Our neighbourhood officer and a surveyor shall be re-visiting the area to consider options for prevention of the current issues in order to safeguard our customers and preserve the look of the community."
