EMERGENCY crews were called to the rescue of a one-ton Herefordshire bull after he slipped into a river.
The animal rescue team from Bromyard fire station rushed to the scene after two bulls slipped down an embankment into deep water in the river Teme yesterday (January 24).
The owner had been able to rescue one of them, but the other proved much more difficult, as it had made its way to the far bank, a fire service spokesperson said.
The Bromyard team were joined by a water first responder from Malvern and a boat crew from Evesham to rescue the stuck bull.
Belmont Farm and Equine vets were on scene to ensure the welfare of the bull was maintained during the rescue, the spokesperson said.

The bull, weighing a whopping 1.1 tons, was assisted downriver using the boat to a safe place where it could stand.
He was then able to walk to the bank and out of the river, the spokesperson said, before making a short walk back to the farm buildings where the vet was able to give him a full check over.
Happily, despite his ordeal, the bull was uninjured and will soon be back out in the field.
