A BENCH will be unveiled in memory of former Wye Valley runner Jan Edwards.

Three months after Janet Edwards went missing in December 2021, West Mercia Police confirmed the 66-year-old's body had been found in the river at Netherton, near Brampton Abbotts, Ross-on-Wye, in March.

Wye Valley Runners club held searches from Churchill Gardens throughout the time she was missing.

Following a successful crowdfunding appeal which raised £1,680, a handmade oak memorial bench is now in Tillington Common, near Hereford.

Dave Sherwood, club treasurer, organised the project and club members Paul Davies and Shaun Hoyes helped install the bench in one of Ms Edwards' favourite spots on the common.

The hand-engraved bench has words chosen carefully by Ms Edwards' family - they are pleased with the result.

Her family hopes the bench will bring much happiness to passing walkers, runners, and cyclists for many years.

The club will be holding a short and informal unveiling ceremony on Sunday, November 27, at 10am on Tillington Common.

Everyone is welcome but there is not much parking so people are asked to share lifts where they can.

"Please do join us to celebrate Jan's life - deep in the Herefordshire countryside she loved so much," said a Wye Valley Runners spokesperson.

When all the bills are paid any extra will be donated to Ms Edwards' chosen charity St Michael's Hospice.
