A HEREFORDSHIRE town is debating scrapping their annual Father Christmas as last year was "too much work".

In Ledbury Town Council's recent meeting the topic of this year's Santa came up, but after last year caused the council a lot of work, town clerk Angie Price wondered whether it was suitable to host him again.

A grotto was set up in the town council offices last year.

"It was a nightmare," said Ms Price.

The council have used different venues over the years, including Burgage Hall.

But the council chambers are the optimum spot, said councillor Tony Bradford.

"I think it would be a mistake not to have a Father Christmas," said coun Bradford.

"It will be a big mistake."

"It is just so much work for us," said Ms Price.

Last year they had glow sticks which went down well, but doesn't fit in with their climate change policy, she said.

"But if we could think of something along those lines," said Ms Price.

Coun Bradford said they should look at employing someone.

Coun Dean Whattler offered himself up to play the role to ensure families would be able to enjoy the annual festivities, as he already will be at Ledbury Primary School.

But councillor Matthew Eakin said the discussion should be for the council's event working party.

Coun Bradford noted Christmas "was only around the corner".
