A HEREFORDSHIRE town has been dealing with the excess rubbish found all over its streets.

Sandra Brown is a volunteer for the Ross-on-Wye Community Litter Clean Up Crew, which has taken on cleaning up the mess strewn across the town.

From bags of rubbish piling up in the town centre’s streets to litter thrown from cars, the group is proactive in making sure Ross stays clean.

But sometimes volunteers are shocked at what they find.

They post photos of their findings on the group’s Facebook page – some of which include full and overflowing bins spotted outside shops most days.

The group has also picked up everything from laughing gas cannisters to plastic bags in the countryside, along main roads and by the river Wye.

Other members have spotted piles rubbish outside the new Coffee#1 on the pavement along the High Street.

But the group hopes as the café has just opened it is teething problems.

Coffee#1 has not responded to an offer for comment.

The problem of litter in the street comes as holiday cover isn’t being met when Ross’ local binman is away, said Ms Brown.

“It just seems such a crazy situation that the holiday cover isn’t emptying the bins, especially in a tourist town, in peak holiday season,” said Ms Brown.

“This is creating loads of over spill litter.”
