A HEREFORDSHIRE border town is hosting its own Pride event this weekend.

Hay-on-Wye is holding its first pride this Sunday (June 12) and organisers have said it is a love letter to the town from its queer residents, workers, and visitors.

Miss Drag UK, Boo La Croux, will host the family friendly day which will feature live bands, drumming, a dog show, barbecue, stalls, and a panel discussion.

The event will take place in the newly refurbished Hay Castle from 11.30am and then move to the Globe for an evening party from 6pm until 10pm.

Founders Helen Jane Campbell and Graham Nolan said: "We've found Hay to be very welcoming to LGBTQ+ people and yet there are currently no dedicated spaces or events for the LGBTQ+ community.

"This is why we're creating these spaces and events ourselves — with the help of some truly wonderful and talented volunteers. We feel very supported here."

It's free to attend the castle during the daytime, and we'll invite a voluntary donation of £7 per person for the evening event.

OTHER NEWS:

Hay Pride is run on a non-for-profit basis and is possible because of kind donations from businesses and The National Lottery Community Fund.
