BROMYARD is launching the backwards D branding that saw the Herefordshire market town hit national headlines when it was revealed at an event to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

The town will be launching the infamous backwards D as it hosts the Bromyard Dining Club in collaboration with the award-winning Digbeth Dining Club to create Party in the Square on June 4.

Local drink producers Wye Valley Brewery and Little Pomona cider will be teaming up with Cleopatra’s Kitchen, Disco Fries, Leave It To Esmie, Gyoza Gyoza and Flats Doughnuts and Bromyard FM DJs.

Bromyard also welcomes back the monthly market on June 5, bringing local traders together with the community once more in the Market Square – the heart of Bromyard.

The backwards D caused a stir earlier in the year when it was unveiled as an option in the town’s branding as part of the Welcome Back and Great Places to Visit funds secured by the town council.

This led to national coverage of Bromyard, including a phone-in debate on Jeremy Vine's flagship BBC Radio 2 programme with those for and against the design.

Since then, Bromyard’s branding has grabbed headlines, with the town featuring in national newspaper and the BBC’s Have I Got News For You.

The branding was a small part of the initiative that aims to put Bromyard on the map, attracting new tourists and visitors to the town, the team behind the designs said.

The intention was to help promote Bromyard in a lively, authentic and considered way. The local designer carried out research into the town’s history and aligned it with a modern look and feel, researching typography throughout the ages.

This led to the discovery of the Bromyard Bushel, an ancient relic in St Peter’s Church and #BushelGate and the backwards D were born, as the design split opinion with residents.
