IT could be a scene out of Jaws – but this stunning snap was taken by a holidaymaker from Worcester as a blue shark swam just metres from bathers at a beach in sunny Majorca.

Musician Tim Prottey-Jones, who grew up in Worcester, was on the beach with his wife, Angela, when swimmers began leave the water.

Mr Prottey-Jones, was with his wife, Angela, when the shark was spotted on Illetas beach, near Magaluf, at the weekend.

He told the Independent: “I noticed people all coming out at the same time.

“There was an eerie calm and parents were picking up their kids.

“I shouted to Angela, when I saw a fin in the shallow water. She didn’t believe me until she saw it.

"The shark swam straight past us very calmly – eerily calm. It was an amazing sight because you just don't expect to see this beautiful animal."

Lifeguards ordered everyone out of the water and a search of the coastline was conducted.

It was later reported the shark had been captured and killed – with a hook said to have been found embedded in its mouth by local aquarium staff.

A spokesman for the Shark Trust said this had likely affected its ability to feed and may explain why it was swimming so close to shore.
