GREYHOUND gave it their all but just came up short in the North Midlands Vase Plate Final.

Having not played a competitive game for five weeks and carrying a few injuries it was small errors that cost the Hereford side as they fell to a 28-11 defeat to Yardley & District in the final.

"Man to man we matched them and it was just that players were trying to hard and made small mistakes which cost us," said first team manager Lewis Braithwaite.

"That's no criticism as they all worked very hard and I'm very proud of them this season. We hadn't played in five weeks and it showed as we looked a little bit rusty at times."

Greyhound started well and took the lead through a Kev Murphy penalty, Yardley levelled the scores through a penalty of there own before a second Murphy kick regained the lead.

Yardley then took control with a try either side of half-time and a drop goal.

A second penalty for Yardley further extended the lead before a Chris Fisher cross field kick was caught by Liam Webdale who scored a try in response.

Yardley sealed the victory with a converted try at the death to take home the trophy.
