Worcestershire head coach Alan Richardson admitted his side fell short after Yorkshire ended the Rapids' unbeaten start to the Metro Bank One Day Cup.

A six-wicket defeat at York left him looking back with a tinge of disappointment and reflecting on what might have been.

He said: "Yeah, we’ll be frustrated, as you always will be because sometimes you won’t get the result, but you’ve done some good stuff.

"I just think we didn’t do enough good stuff today."

Worcestershire were put in to bat and struggled early on, slipping to 53-4 before a fifth-wicket stand between Dan Lategan and Henry Cullen steadied the innings.

A late surge from Matthew Waite helped the defending champions post 230, but it never looked like being enough.

Yorkshire's Will Luxton scored a commanding century as the hosts chased down the target with six wickets in hand.

Richardson said: "I mean, getting to 53 for 4, that makes it quite difficult, but I thought Dan and Henry played really well.

"It’s such a good test for those guys.

"There were a few things that didn’t quite go our way, but that’s the whole test.

"That’s where your character shines through.

"So, we probably didn’t quite get those little things quite right today, but we weren’t far away."

Lategan recorded his fourth List A 50 for the club, while Cullen impressed with his ability to manoeuvre the field and keep the scoreboard ticking over.

Richardson praised their efforts against a strong Yorkshire attack.

He said: "They had a decent seam attack, but then also obviously two international spinners in Dom Bess and Kuldeep Yadav.

"So, to see the guys work their way through that was really nice to watch and it took a little bit of impetus at the halfway stage, but a big part of that was Henry and Dan again."

Worcestershire will have little time to dwell on the defeat as they prepare to host Middlesex at New Road on Friday.

Richardson said: "The beauty of the competition is that we have another opportunity in less than 48 hours.

"We have to use that to our advantage. Middlesex would have come off a little bit of a break, whereas we play three games in pretty quick succession, but that is an opportunity for us to put in a better performance on Friday."
