Herefordshire were in trouble at the end of the opening day of the NCCA Cluberly Championship, finding themselves at a precarious 44 for five against Wiltshire at Eastnor.

The day started poorly for Herefordshire when former Worcestershire batter Taylor Cornall was dismissed for the sixth ball of their first innings.

Cyrus Shafi and Stan Brown from Wiltshire stole the show with impressive centuries, scoring 146 and 112 respectively.

Their partnership helped Wiltshire recover from a shaky 89 for four at lunch to a formidable total of 404 all out.

Shafi, who previously played for Herefordshire, showcased his skills by accelerating after lunch, reaching his century in 153 balls with 11 fours and four sixes.

Brown supported him well, contributing significantly to the innings with his own century, which included 15 fours and three sixes.

As Herefordshire took to the crease, they struggled against Wiltshire's bowling attack.

Their situation worsened as they ended the day deep in trouble, with only 44 runs on the board and five wickets down.

In other matches, Sam Keeling-Wright made headlines for Staffordshire, taking eight wickets for 60 runs against Cambridgeshire, marking the best bowling figures for Staffordshire in 51 years.

His performance helped dismiss Cambridgeshire for 152 runs.

Staffordshire ended the day at 115 for two, with James Kettleborough scoring 42.

Meanwhile, at Benwell Hill, defending champions Buckinghamshire faced a tough challenge against Northumberland, closing the day at 134 for six, with Billy Dodds holding the innings together with an unbeaten 69.

In Eastern Division Two, Lincolnshire had a fantastic day against Hertfordshire, scoring 449 for eight, with Sam Evans and Pranav Pothula both making centuries.

Hertfordshire struggled in response, finishing the day at 49 for four.
