A RARE collection of sporting history is going on public display for the first time.
Kington Golf Club in Herefordshire is opening its seldom-seen archives as part of its centenary celebrations, hosting a free exhibition of memorabilia and artefacts to mark 100 years of golfing heritage.
Visitors will have the chance to view photographs, maps, documents and items from the club’s archives, including a putter belonging to the club’s course designer, Major Cecil Key Hutchison.
Niki Scott, centenary chair at Kington Golf Club, said: "Our archive committee has worked hard, painstakingly going through numerous documents, letters and photographs.
"We are so lucky that all these wonderful items have been kept and preserved by the golf club and its members."
Major Hutchison designed the course at Bradnor Hill in 1926, creating a layout that made use of the area’s natural hills and windy terrain.
His original design remains largely unchanged nearly a century later.
The exhibition will be held at Kington Golf Club on March 27 and 28, running from 10am to 4pm each day.
Stewards will be on hand to guide visitors through the exhibition and to answer questions and provide further information about the items on display.
The exhibition is part of a wider programme of centenary events and is expected to attract both golf fans and those interested in local history.
