KINGTON recorded a 4-2 win over Knighton in their first KBS Mid-Wales League game of the season.

Knighton struggled to keep up with the Joneses - Catherine and Karon Jones scored three of Kington’s goals.

Catherine Jones put Kington 1-0 ahead and she bagged a second goal soon afterwards.

Knighton pulled a goal back before the break but captain Karon Jones extended Kington’s two-goal cushion from a short corner.

Knighton reduced arrears from a break but Val Evans wrapped up the match with Kington’s fourth goal.

Two-goal Catherine Jones and Jeni Layton were outstanding for Kington and battled hard throughout the match.

l Despite taking the lead and playing quite well, Tenbury suffered another defeat when they went down 3-2 at Shrewsbury in the Midland League.

They started well and took the lead when young substitute Ruddock took a reverse pass from Gemma Toms before beating the home keeper. It was short-lived, however, with the home side going on to lead 3-1.

Tina Bickley struck a post and Ruddock scored her second goal of the game, but the home side played out time to claim the points.
