HEREFORD 2nd suffered a 1-0 defeat at Wootton Bassett 2nd in Severn Division 1 of the West Clubs’ Women’s League.

Hereford’s best chance of the first half fell to Maria Love who ran on to a measured pass from Ruth Powell but was denied by the Wootton goalkeeper.

Hereford kept the home side at bay in the second half with fine defending from Angela Thomas, Lauren Kedward, Claire Annett and Abbi Williams.

The home side eventually broke the deadlock after Hereford’s goalkeeper, Mel Bryans, had made a double save.

Despite further Wootton pressure, Hereford remained just one goal adrift thanks to a string of fine saves from Bryans.

A hat-trick from Emily Tompkins and a goal from Claire Pritchard led Hereford to a 4-1 win at Gloucester 3rd.

Leominster crashed to a frustrating 1-0 defeat at Bretforton 2nd, also in Severn Division 1.

The North Herefordshire side had a lot of possession but could not find a way through the home defence.

There was also disappointment for Ross-on-Wye who slipped to a 2-1 home defeat to Cheltenham 3rd in Severn Division 2.

Ross had the majority of the play in the first half but fell behind to a breakaway goal.

Cheltenham increased their lead from the penalty spot after a shot struck a Ross player’s foot. Ross goalkeeper Chris Harris almost kept out the penalty flick but the ball bounced into the net off a post.

Kate Cameron reduced the deficit with five minutes left.
