LEOMINSTER are still in with hope of promotion from the Conference North of the Davis Wood League despite a 3-0 defeat by league leaders Swansea University.

The north Herefordshire side swiftly recovered from the blow with a 3-1 success at City of Bath the following day.

At Swansea, the home side opening the scoring from a deflected short corner in the first-half.

But Leominster had the chances to draw level before conceding a couple of goals despite the best efforts of goalkeeper Matt Styles.

At Bath, Leominster also fell behind but soon levelled through Harry Ellis.

After the break, Leominster continued to create chances and goals from Josh Watkins and man-of-the-match Matt Duggan secured their win.

Hereford, meanwhile, suffered another blow in their bid to get away from the foot of the table with a 3-1 defeat at Firebrands 2nd.

But the Hereford’s second string put themselves in a strong position for promotion from Marches One with a doubly-successful weekend.

Matt Thomas, Dan Makaruk (2), Max Porter and Richard Brown were on target in a 5-3 win over Cirencester 2nd.

And Hereford went even better on Sunday with a 7-1 home success against Newent 2nd.

Dan Tindle, Makaruk, Will Steel, Thomas (2) and Brown (2) were on target.

In the same division, Leominster 2nd were also victorious, seeing off Lansdown 2nd 3-0 while, in De Cymru and Marches 2, Ross-on-Wye won 3-2 against Gloucester City 2nd.

Ross 2nd did not have such a great weekend in Marches Two, beaten 5-0 at Cheltenham 4th and 1-0 at Gloucester City 4th but Hereford 3rd won again, 3-0 at Cirencester 4th.

l LEOMINSTER shrugged off the disadvantage of having just 10 players by holding on for a 3-3 draw at Bristol University 2nd in the North Division of the West Club’s Women’s League.

Leominster fell behind but Nina Emery set up an equaliser for Karen Hackley who went on to complete her hat-trick with two excellent solo efforts before the interval.

The students hit back to level the scores and Leominster held on for a draw.

In Premier 2A, Hereford were beaten 5-3 at Chippenham but the city club’s second team gained a welcome win in Severn One, beating Lansdown 2nd 1-0 at home.

In the South Wales League, Division Two leaders Presteigne dropped a rare point when they were held at home 2-2 by third-placed Gowerton.

Gowerton took the lead after just five minutes and then it was not until the stroke of half-time that Rita Tomkins levelled the scores.

Tomkins bagged a second after good work by Ellie Williams, Charlotte Jones and Pru Napolitano but Gowerton struck back to earn their point.
