Lord Scudamore Primary School 4 Leominster Junior School 3

LORD Scudamore Primary School kept alive their dreams of reaching Wembley with a thrilling win at Edgar Street.

Two goals from Carlos Moreira helped Lord Scudamore to victory in the Football League Community Cup local boys’ final.

Leominster Junior School twice came from behind and they struck the woodwork three times in an action-packed match.

Lord Scudamore prevailed and will represent their school and Hereford United at the League 1 under-11 northern finals in Crewe on April 23.

The regional winners will then go forward to the League 1 national final at Wembley Stadium in May.

Lord Scudamore and Leominster had booked their place in the local final after a tournament organised at Hereford Leisure Centre last autumn by Hereford United’s Football in the Community officer, Jamie Edwards.

Last week’s final was 25 minutes each half and the Hereford school dominated the early stages.

Bradley Pitman, Tommy Williams and Curtis Wynn all went close to breaking the deadlock in the opening five minutes.

Lord Scudamore almost took the lead in the sixth minute but Leominster goalkeeper Liam Hill denied Moreira twice in quick succession.

Leominster hit back and two shots from Daniel Petrie were deflected for corners.

Hill did well to save a cross-shot from Wynn in the 14th minute but there was little he could do to keep out Moreira’s drive four minutes later.

Moreira’s powerful effort bounced into the net after striking the inside of the left-hand post.

Leominster drew level on the stroke of half time when Jordan Acaster intercepted a goalkick from Daniel Hibberd and fired home.

Petrie struck a post a minute into the second half and Brandon Charles narrowly put the rebound wide for Leominster.

But Lord Scudamore went 2-1 in front in the 28th minute when Moreira forced a good stop from Hill and Wynn converted the rebound.

The Hereford school’s celebrations were cut short because Leominster made it 2-2 within a minute.

Daniel Repeta found himself in space and blasted the ball past Hibberd.

Leominster’s Joe Layton hit the top of the crossbar with a long-range free-kick before they took the lead for the first time.

A shot from Acaster was blocked and Charles hit a low drive into the net in the 34th minute.

Lord Scudamore made it 3-3 four minutes later after a long throw was half-cleared and Moreira netted from close-range.

Leominster were out of luck seconds later when Petrie’s drive rattled a post.

Lord Scudamore hit the winning goal with 10 minutes remaining.

Williams’ throw-in was headed into the air by a defender.

After Moreira’s shot was parried by Hill, Pitman slotted home.

Lord Scudamore almost added a fifth but Dominic Hawke made a goal-line clearance from Pitman’s shot.

Hereford United defender Josh Gowling, who is on loan from Carlisle United, made the presentations.
