Hereford United 2 Leeds United 0 ON-LOAN forwards Jennison Myrie-Williams and Febian Brandy struck to give Hereford back-to-back wins for the first time this season.

But another loanee, goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi played a significant part with a brilliant penalty save with the score at 0-0.

Boss Graham Turner was forced into two changes after losing all three of his contracted centre-backs at Cheltenham on Saturday.

Loan signing from Liverpool Godwin Antwi was drafted in to play alongside Richard Rose, who had moved inside from right-back to accommodate the return of Richard Jackson.

The Hereford crowd had an early look at Gulacsi who was called on to save Carl Dickinson’s 30-yard drive just seconds into his Edgar Street debut.

The opening exchanges were played out at a high tempo but neither side was able to establish much of a grip.

Hereford might have done better on eight minutes when Sam Gwynne’s corner was only partially cleared but Kris Taylor’s shot from 35 yards flew high over and out of the ground.

The Bulls should have taken the lead on 20 minutes when Jennison Myrie-Williams’ pace took him away from two defenders and into the Leeds area.

But, with keeper Casper Ankergren advancing, the on-loan winger lifted his shot over the bar from a great position.

Shortly afterwards, Steve Guinan blazed high into the crowd from 25 yards.

At the other end, Antwi was impressing with some accomplished defensive work while Gulacsi did extremely well to grasp a cross from Andy Robinson under his own bar.

The game exploded into life eight minutes before the break.

Taylor was judged to have brought down Robinson in the area and referee Graham Horwood gave a penalty.

But Gulacsi dived to his right to turn Lee Trundle’s spot-kick around the post for a corner.

Two minutes later, Hereford broke out and Sam Hewson’s pass played in Myrie-Williams whose low shot beat Ankergren and flew into the corner of the net.

In the lead-up to half-time, it was almost two when Hewson’s shot flashed across goal and wide.

Early in the second period, it took an excellent challenge by Antwi to deny Luciano Becchio when the striker beat the Hereford offside trap.

But Hereford continued to look dangerous and a Sam Gwynne shot and a Guinan header flew just off target.

And the home side’s endeavour paid off with a second goal in the 63rd minute.

Myrie-Williams’ free-kick was headed across goal by Antwi for Brandy to adminster the final touch.

Robinson struck a volley just wide but Hereford were still giving as good they got and Brandy clipped a shot just wide from Guinan’s pass.

Guinan himself was unlucky shortly afterwards, volleying just over from a long Gulacsi goalkick.

Becchio should have pulled a goal back, however, when he flashed a shot wide from a great position 11 minutes from time.
