Hereford United 2 Bristol City 2GOALS from Simon Johnson and Gary Breen ensured Hereford a share of the spoils in an entertaining pre-season friendly.

Goalkeeper Craig Sansom, who was given the starting berth, was quickly in action, confidently fielding a Scott Murray shot with just a minute played.

Shortly afterwards, the former Dundee keeper was out swiftly to block at Murray’s feet.

Hereford also had their moments with Johnson cracking a shot just over and Steve Guinan just unable to control a driven cross from Toumani Diagouraga.

Samson saved well again from a Lee Trundle back-flick and the former Swansea striker then sent a shot fizzing narrowly over.

Samson, who had an impressive first-half, saved superbly from a point-blank Murray effort and, with City making the running, Trundle cracked a fierce drive over from just inside the area.

Hereford made a much brighter opening to the second period and Guinan headed a yard wide from a Matt Done cross.

Samson saved well once more from Trundle before Hereford took the lead on 52 minutes.

Diagouraga and Guinan worked an opening for Johnson to drive in from 18 yards.

City levelled nine minutes later when Robbie Threlfall pulled back Trundle who scored from the resulting penalty.

Breen headed in a Jack McLeod corner to restore Hereford’s lead on 71 minutes.

But again the advantage was short-lived as Scott Murray drilled a second equaliser into the corner of the Bulls’ net, just after Darren Randolph had replaced the impressive Samson.

Randolph made a couple of good saves in the closing stages as both sides continued to press forward.
