HEREFORD United centre-back Dean Beckwith has committed himself to the Bulls’ cause for a further 12 months after signing a new deal.

And with the players reporting back yesterday for pre-season training, the flow of new signings has begun with Bulls chief Graham Turner securing the signatures of two young players from Premiership clubs on year-long deals, Gary Breen, formerly of Manchester City, and ex-Fulham striker Bradley Hudson-Odoi.

“We also expect to announce the signing of a goalkeeper within the next 24 hours,” said Turner yesterday (Wednesday).

Irish-born Breen, aged 19, looks to be one for the future.

“He had a spell on loan at West Bromwich Albion last season and we feel he has got potential,” said Turner.

The same could be said of Ghanaian under-20 international Hudson-Odoi.

“He was released by Fulham and coach John Trewick saw him at the exit trials,” said Turner.

“He came down here a couple of times last season and played in a couple of trial games.”

The pair join the other new acquisition, former Wrexham winger Matty Done, and more new players will be expected soon with Turner working overtime talking with agents.

“We have, obviously, been short of players following some departures at the end of last season,” he said.

“It would have been nice to have tied a few up a lot earlier but, similar to last closed season, I have felt that there is no need to panic.

“There are still a lot of players out there and we are talking to some very good ones.”

The start of pre-season training saw 15 players report to Edgar Street.

“It is actually the same number as reported last year, but this time 14 of them are signed whereas last year we had a number of triallists,” said Turner.

Bulls fans will have their first chance to run the rule over the new signings when United make the short trip to New Street to take on Ledbury Town next Tuesday evening.
