Hereford’S James Bevis has climbed to the top of the official world shooting rankings.

The 34-year-old is number one in the International Paralympic Committee Shooting’s R5 Mixed 10-m Air Rifle Prone.

Bevis has had a successful year, equalling the world record for the prone event three times.

He shot a maximum 600 out of 600 at Hessen in Germany and he also achieved the feat at the Grand Prix in France and at the World Championships in Croatia.

He is reaping the benefits after taking up shooting on a full-time basis in February last year.

“I have been consistent in he last four to five championships nd, in the last two orld Cups and World hampionships, I have equalled three world records,” he said.

“I have been working hard on my strength and conditioning with Ben Harwood at thePoint4 and I have been training flat out.

“This year is important because it’s the first qualifying year for the London Paralympics in 2012.”
