Hereford United 0 Rotherham United 1 EIGHTEEEN chances but no goals was Hereford’s disappointing return from their home clash with promotionhopefuls Rotherham at Edgar Street on Saturday.

And with just one goal from five games, Hereford’s poor conversion rate is beginning to cause a little concern even though the opportunities are still coming.

The disappointment is even more palpable when Rotherham, who had only three efforts on goal in a game where Adam Bartlett had very little to do in goal, found a way through from one of them.

While Bartlett had little to worry him, his counterpart, Andy Warrington, was constantly in the action, particularly in the second half, and produced a clutch of excellent stops to confirm the Millers’ win.

The decisive goal came in first-half stoppage time when Adam Le Fondre seized on a quickly taken throw-in and crossed for Paul Warne to head in.

Within 30 seconds of the start of the second period, Hereford had almost levelled when Sean Canham’s shot was destined for the net before Warrington pulled off a fine reaction save.

If Canham was unlucky to be denied on that occasion, two of his team-mates will look back on other chances and feel that they might have done better.

Stuart Fleetwood raced into the Rotherham area and was one-on-one with Warrington, only to drag his shot wide of the far upright.

And O’Neill Thompson, who had several efforts on goal in the second period when he played as an auxiliary attacker, prodded a shot wide from 10 yards when he should have hit the target.

With time running out, Warrington underlined his man-of-the-match status with a superb double save from James McQuilkin in injurytime, just to underline that it was not to be Hereford’s day.
