ALEX Haines pipped Jon Tetley by just one second to win Hereford Wheelers Cycling Club’s 13th 10-mile time trial last week.
Haines held off the challenge of his team-mate to compete the Yazor to Stretton Sugwas roundabout course in 23 minutes and 14 seconds.
In-form Sarah Lloyd-Stephens won the ladies’ race in a time of 27 minutes and 23 seconds.
A total of 61 riders, which included 15 women, competed in the last Thursday’s event which had perfect racing conditions.
The top five positions were: 1 Alex Haines 23.14, 2 Jon Tetley 23.15, 3 Andy Sparks 23.32, 4 Mark Sims 24.12, 5 Steve King 24.17.
The top five Ladies were: 1 Sarah Lloyd-Stephens 27.23, 2 Gaby McDermott 27.41, 3 Claire Scott 27.51, 4 Nicola Goodwin 28.07, 5 Tricia Wright 28.13.
Tonight’s (Thursday’s) event is the 14th 10-mile time trial at Lugg Bridge, starting at 7pm.
