Westfields 3 Bromyard Town 0.

WESTFIELDS scored three times in the second half to clinch the HFA Senior Floodlit Cup for the first time on Tuesday.

The Aspire Midland Alliance outfit saw off the challenge of Bromyard to prise the trophy out of the Hereford United boardroom.

Westfields were delighted with the triumph, particularly after last week’s semi-final success over United, who had held the trophy for the past 10 years.

Westfields and Bromyard struggled to create openings in the first half of a final played at Pegasus Juniors’ ground.

The Hereford club had the best opportunity of the first half and Bromyard goalkeeper Darren Knurek made a superb save from Danny Hill.

Westfields manager John Layton pushed Darryl Addis alongside Hill in the second half and the move paid dividends in the 53rd minute.

Addis, Jamie Edwards, Jamie Cuss and Hill combined down the left and the move ended with Paul Allam heading in the opening goal.

The city side extended their advantage two minutes later after Edwards’ superb cross to the far post was headed in by Cuss.

Westfields started to open up the Bromyard defence and Hill’s powerful header was brilliantly tipped over by Knurek.

Bromyard were clearly deflated and Westfields sealed their triumph with a third goal in the 70th minute.

Allam’s cross from the right was handled by Matt Graham and Westfields’ leading-scorer Mark Hibbard slammed home the spot-kick.

Bromyard tried hard to get back into the game and forced three corners. However, Westfields finished the match strongly.

Hibbard had an effort well saved by the inspired Knurek and substitute Lee Mussell shot over from a good position.
