HEREFORD United boss Graham Turner has admitted that the club’s relegation is down to him and has apologised to fans.

“Whatever happens during a season, it is the manager who has to take responsibility and therefore accountability,” he said.

“I take full responsibility for our plight and personally offer my sincere apologies to all who, like me, started the season with such high hopes.”

The Bulls chief will be carrying out a review of the entire club over the next couple of weeks.

“Some very big decisions will need to be made before the season ends,” he said in his frank column in today’s Hereford Times.

Despite the disappointments of the season, the club is financially in strong shape to fight back.

And it is clear that Turner himself intends to lead the way.

“I am still expecting to be here at the start of next season,” he said.

With only two players - Toumani Diagouraga and Matt Done - under contract for next season, major changes can be expected on the playing front with few of the current staff likely to be retained for the League 2 campaign.

One of the heroes of the last promotion campaign, Clint Easton, has already departed, by mutual consent, and was followed this week by goalkeeper Craig Samson, who was also released.

Those who nurture aspirations to still be at Edgar Street next season now have just four games to make an impression on Turner starting with the home game against Colchester on Saturday, which is followed by a trip to Yeovil next Tuesday.

Karl Broadhurst, Febian Brandy, Richard Jackson and Andy Williams are all likely to be sidelined on Saturday.

But Turner is hopes Josh Gowling or Dean Beckwith, who failed fitness tests at Tranmere, will be available to take their places in defence against Colchester.
