WESTSIDE secured a third consecutive win with a 47-42 victory over Warwickshire side Henley.

The game was fast and physical at the outset with Henley’s GS having to come off after five minutes following a fall during play.

This unsettled Henley and allowed Westside to capitalise and take the lead.

Westside's starting line up of Shelley Hudson GK, Kelly Stevens GD, Sophie Wright WD, Jaydee Hunt C, Gemma Bearcroft WA, Kerry Amos GA and Debbie Bowdley GS, started well against their opposition and their two previous wins had definitely increased their confidence on court.

Team changes at quarter time by both sides saw Westside introduce Mel Hunt at WD, with Wright moving to GD and Stevens to GK.

Henley saw the return of their original shooter and began the second quarter with determination. Henley proved strong in attack with neither shooter missing any attempts, however the pressure from Westside's defence made it difficult for Henley to penetrate the circle and a number of forced errors occurred which Westside capitalised on.

Amos and Bowdley once again produced a solid performance in the circle with excellent persistence and determination to fight off the strong and physical defence of Henley.

During the third quarter, Westside saw their opposition faulter under pressure, producing more unforced errors.

Westside put in another good team performance which saw them work hard in defence to pressure Henley and display their quick attacking moves leaving Henley trailing .

The game finished in Westside's favour 47-42 with player of the match going to Gemma Bearcroft at wing attack. She worked well across the centre court with the Hunt sisters and provided some unstoppable feeds into Bowdley.

“We are now top of the table, a huge achievement for a team that has just come up from the second division but our feet are firmly on the ground as we know we have a long season ahead and we need to maintain our consistency,” said coach Helen Bowden.

Westside face Leamington on Saturday.
