COLIN Barnes captained Herefordshire A in an away match against Oxfordshire A but was unable to lead his side to success.
A slow start in the morning session left Herefordshire with a 12-point deficit to make up and in the afternoon session their captain led them in a recovery bid with a decisive win in his singles game.
The team quickly followed suit, winning five games out of eight and drawing one but could only make up six of the points needed.
The final result was Oxfordshire 25 points, Herefordshire 15 points, with Oxfordshire winning six of the eight bonus points.
