HEREFORD midfield Luke Spokes has highlighted a ‘clear structure’ within the squad which has helped them to three wins in their opening four league games.
Spokes provided an assist and scored a goal in Hereford’s 3-0 win at Worksop after also playing key roles in their wins against Radcliffe and Marine.
“We've got a really clear structure, and we've got a really clear plan,” said Spokes following the win.
“You can never go wrong if that's the case, the management have been brilliant with that.
“The lads have to buy into it and everyone has done it really well. When you're all working towards the same goal, it just brings you together naturally.
“We've got no individuals or lads who are trying to do their own thing. Everyone is proper buying in. It's really good and you're able to see it in the games that we've played so far.”
The 26-year-old from Bristol was previously signed for Kidderminster Harriers before spending the end of the last season at National League South side Weston-super-Mare.
Spokes’ previous clubs include Grimsby Town and Bath City, with loan spells at Boston United and Spennymoor Town.
He praised manager Aaron Downes and assistant Harry Pell for presenting their plan to him in the summer and made it ‘easy to buy into’.
He added: “They sat me down and told me everything that was going to happen.
“As a player you just want to know what you're buying into. What I liked about the gaffer (Downes) and (Harry) Pell is they said, ‘we want to tell you everything, so then you can look at it and go, is this for me? Is this not for me?’
“Everything that I wanted, they said. Then it's easy for me to buy into that.”
Hereford sit nicely in sixth position after the opening four games. However, they welcome a Chester side to Edgar Street on Saturday who have a perfect record from their opening four matches.
Downes’ side then head to Southport on Bank Holiday Monday, with the Sandgrounders having had a mixed start to their campaign.
Spokes believes it is an open National League North where ‘anyone can beat anyone’.
He added: “It's going to be two good games.
“If you look at the results from today, anyone could beat anyone. That's this league to a T.
“We just have to make sure we do the right things. We turn up, we take every game as it comes, and we go out and try to win every game, and that's all we can do.
“There's no teams that you look at and go, they're going to beat everyone. We just have to turn up and do the right things.
“I think the main thing for us is not getting carried away.
We're only four games in, admittedly we've started really well, and we've won three. There’s another 42 games to go.”
