TABLE-TOPPERS Brockhampton are preparing for a huge weekend as they look to continue their unbeaten run in league and cup competitions.
Brock sit top of the Worcestershire County League Premier following an impressive six-wicket win at Netherton last weekend.
At the mid-season point injuries in the Brockhampton team resulted in Alexander Poe and coach Glyn Harrhy being drafted into the first team.
Poe almost immediately got to work with his first of a five wicket haul to finish with bowling figures of 5-28.
Meanwhile, Harrhy led by example taking three wickets and also three catches as Netherton were skittled out for just 153 off 45.4 overs.
In response Brockhampton were steady with the bat as skipper Sam Johnston hit 33 to guide his side to 60-2.
Indy Jerram contributed with 43 before O’Shea Durack helped his side over the line with an unbeaten 37.
Brockhampton were always in control in the run chase and finished on 154/4 with 10 overs remaining.
“It was another great win to leave us top at the half way point,” said Brockhampton skipper Johnston.
“The result was made even better as we had to bring a few players in as we are carrying a few injuries, one of them being Alex Poe who went on to take five wickets & our coach Glyn Harrhy who took three wickets and three catches in the slips!
“It just goes to show how deep our squad is. It was also nice to get one back on Netherton who are the only side to beat us this season.”
Brockhampton sit just 14 points above Bromsgrove seconds at the Worcestershire County League Premier Division summit.
The top two sides meet this weekend and Brockhampton will be left with a selection headache following the performances of Poe and Harrhy last weekend.
The Parks will be full of anticipation on Sunday when Brockhampton host Derbyshire side South Wingfield in the National Village Cup. The sides will be playing for a quarter-final spot and one step closer to the Lords final.
Johnston added: “We believe we can win the league.
“We play Bromsgrove who are currently in second this Saturday so that will have a big say on where the league goes I would suggest.
“On Sunday we are playing South Wingfield from Derbyshire in the last 16 of the National Village Knockout so it’s a huge weekend for the club, three wins from a day out at Lords.”
Meanwhile, Bartestree & Lugwardine suffered a blow to their Worcestershire County League Division Two promotion hopes with a three-wicket defeat at Lye seconds.
After hitting 302 runs last weekend Bartestree struggled to get going at Lye with opener George Godsall getting run-out on 28 when a promising partnership was developing with skipper Ryan Trattell.
Trattell went on to top score on 37 from 28 balls before being caught. The Bartestree innings then fell apart as the visitors fell from 86/3 to 153 all out.
Lye’s openers struggled and the Herefordshire visitors were optimistic with the hosts shaking at 10/3 and then 38/4.
However, Muhammad Kamran (Bham) held his nerve with an unbeaten 71 which helped Lye limp over the winning line, finishing on 159/7 off 42.5 overs.
