GEORGE Clark scored through a packed penalty area to salvage a point for Westfields as they battled to a 1-1 draw against Thornbury Town.
Danny Moon’s side travelled to relegation threatened Thornbury and had to work hard to secure to come back from a goal down at the break to force a 1-1 draw in torrential rain on a heavy pitch.
Fields had the better of the first half but failed to convert good chances when first Drew Heffernan blasted wide from 12 yards then Cam Davies found himself with a great chance, but shot wide from six yards out.
Little was seen of home attack as Westfields dominated the first half and Aidan Clark headed wide when he rose to a Sirdic Grant cross.
Then against the run of play Thornbury opened the scoring just before half-time when the visiting defence should have cleared their lines but Harry Brock seized on the opportunity to beat Jack Oxenham with a crisp finish to give the hosts a 1-0 interval lead.
After the break Moon’s side mounted a wave after wave of attacks and Mackenzie Welsh in the Thornbury goal produced two good saves to deny Lewis Rose and Zac Powell.
Westfields deservedly drew level in the 66th minute after the Thornbury keeper had saved well, but the ball was only partially cleared and full-back Clark was on hand to fire through a ruck of players for the equaliser.
The game then opened up as both sides searched for the winner and Oxenham reacted smartly to dangerous situations then Cam Davies got in a last ditch tackle as Thornbury stepped up their game.
As the game swung from end-to-end both sides went close to forcing a winner and Clark went close with a header.
The Westfields wall defended superbly as Thornbury Town forced a last minute free-kick which was denied as both sides settled for a point from a 1-1 away draw.
Meanwhile, Hereford Pegasus fell to a 3-1 defeat at promotion-chasing Slimbridge in a tough day out.
Ryan Ponting put the hosts ahead in the first half before a Aaron Evans-Harriot penalty and Jack Smith goal secured the points. Pegasus defender Kyle Panniers scored a late consolation goal in reply.
