THE SHROPSHIRE & Herefordshire Under-14’s Boys played their final game of the season recently against Shropshire & Herefordshire Seniors at a beautifully prepared autumnal Church Stretton Golf Club.

The players were all in agreement that the course was in excellent condition, given the time of year.

The Herefordshire area was well represented in the team with six of the players being sourced from Leominster, Burghill, The Grove and Kington.

The team set out with high hopes with Finley Baldwin (South Herefordshire) and Haydn Price (The Grove) leading the way only to be edged out in a close match by SHUGC President Nigel Chesters and his partner Paul Shirt.

The juniors were soon back on level terms when Ollie Lambert and nine-year-old Ollie Evans put together a fantastic run of holes to edge out their opponents by a 2&1 victory margin.

The SHUGC Seniors were soon back in front when Dylan Walters (Hawkstone) and Alex Meek (Ludlow) narrowly lost their mat one down after a very close battle.

SHUGC Seniors then recorded another win to go 3-1 ahead. Lewis Evans (Leominster) and Will Morley (Burghill Valley) fought back for the juniors winning their match 1up on the last hole to close things down to 2-3 in the Seniors favour.

In the last match debutants Max Hillier (Shrewsbury) and Edward Noblet (Church Stretton) battled to a hard fought draw, having to win the last three holes to end honours even.

The result for the popular fixture was- Shropshire & Herefordshire U14’s 2.5 Shropshire & Hereford Seniors 3.5.

The game marked the end of a successful year for Shropshire & Herefordshire Under-14’s Boys as they prepare to work hard on their games over the winter months.
