ROSS Golf Club’s Layton Cup again provided a strong field as John Hall took the honours in the latest event.
The Cup consists of six stableford rounds spread throughout the summer season where the total points scored from the best 3 rounds determine the Champion which includes honours board recognition.
The fifth and penultimate Layton Cup round took place recently with a massive 123 members start-sheet and provided the opportunity for John Hall to deliver his best-ever performance since joining the Ross Club two years ago as a 20 handicapper.
Hall has reduced his World Handicap Index to 13.1 and in the 5th Layton Cup round he produced three birdies and three pars in the front nine holes, amassing 24 points.
He followed that by another birdie and three pars on his back nine holes and his 41 points total was victorious.
John Parker and Phil Payne with 39 points were followed by Nigel Gibbs, Jonathan Hoyle, Robin Looms and Geoff Bent with 38 points each.
On the eve of the sixth and final Layton Cup round Steve Bartholomew, a former Layton Cup Champion in 2019 is in prime position leading with 118 points chased by John Hall with 115 points and Adrian Berry, Dave Roberts and Kevin Murphy with 113 points each.
In the associated Layton Eclectic Cup, which encompasses all six rounds based upon medal performances, Steve Woods with a medal score of 67 looks the one most likely although another fine performance by Hall, who is again in second place with 68 could see him claim two trophies on the same day. Alan Davis 69 and Peter Dumbell and Iain Bissell with 70 may also influence the final reckoning.
