WESTFIELDS and Hereford Pegasus both exited the FA Cup at the first hurdle following home defeats.

Danny Moon’s side were well beaten by visiting Atherstone Town 4-2 at allpay.park on Saturday in front of 260 spectators.

The Warwickshire visitors were soon on the attack and created good early chances that Jack Oxenham in the Fields goal was alert to.

However, the quick moving Atherstone attack got through the Westfields defence on the half-an-hour, and Tom Smith put them ahead with a low shot.

Atherstone almost added to their tally, but Kane Kahaki made a great saving tackle to prevent the visitors increasing their lead.

Just before the interval work on the right by Bailey Fuller gave Zac Powell a great opportunity to put Westfields level but his low drive crashed against the Atherstone post and was scrambled clear as the visitors went in 1-0 up at the break.

After the interval the Adders continued their swift movement and were 2-0 ahead within a couple minutes of the re-start when Jacob Shilton put them into a commanding lead.

The visitors hit a purple match in the match and further pressure on the Westfields defence resulted in goals by Jack Wells and Jack Edwards, putting them into a match-winning 4-0 lead.

However, Fields had a glimmer of hope when Bailey Fuller pulled a goal back as Moon’s side finished with a late flurry.

Home substitute Jamie Clarke then scored the best goal of the game with a  superb shot on the turn from 18 yards out which flew into the top corner of the Atherstone net.

Hereford Pegasus were also beaten as Midland League Premier Division side Lye Town ran out 2-0 winners at Old School Lane.

Second half goals from Sam Hall and Alfie Didlock booked their side’s place in the hat for the next round.

Fields were also in Hellenic Premier Division action on Tuesday night when they suffered a   5-0 defeat at the hands of newly promoted Droitwich Spa.

The buoyant hosts started on the front foot and goalkeeper Jack Oxenham was forced into action before Kane Khaki cleared an effort off the line.

Despite Alex Dugmore also being denied by Oxenham the Spa man scored at the second time of asking on seven minutes.

Aidan Clarke had Fields’ opening chance but goalkeeper Dom Rogerson matched his shot.

Against the run of play Droitwich made it 2-0 on 23 minutes after a neat ball played through Dugmore who lobbed the goalkeeper.

Clarke continued to probe early in the second half but was twice denied by opponent Ben Tilbury.

Droitwich were out of sight with 53 minutes on the clock as James Lemon beat his marker before finding Dugmore for his hat-trick.

The home side were not finished and Dugmore turned provider on 63 minutes and his deflected cross found Charlie Tilley to net.

Not content with his evening Dugmore scored his fourth and Droitwich’s fifth goal at the death.
