ALEC Osborn celebrated taking victory at Ross Golf Club’s Annual Charity Mid-week Invitation event which took place recently.

As the day was in the capable care of the club's men's seniors aged 55+ committee, this enabled the section's recently appointed Seniors Captain Doug Graham to witness his designated Charity St Michael's Hospice benefitting to good effect.

The support and encouragement received on several fronts and indicative of the 'helping others' culture which has evolved at the Gorsley based Ross Club, resulted in a £1,500 contribution being added to Graham’s fundraising campaign.

Since joining the Ross Club four years ago, accomplished 10.5 handicapper Osborn has been a regular at this better ball stableford competition, in which 42 pairs took part.

On this occasion Osborn’s guest was friend Peter Horton, from the Blackwell GC, with the pairing enjoying a day to remember.

With Osborn in exceptional form and personally capturing two birdies and 10 pars, which represented a massive 36 points of their 46 points winning total.

Osborn acknowledged his recent investment in improving himself through coaching lessons from the Ross Club's PGA Professional Zach Galliford.

Stephen Harrhy and Neil Cooper also excelled in their 44 points runners-up achievement and they were followed in collecting prizes by Keith Flitton and Steve Thompson from Wharton Park GC and Roger Morgan and his brother Stephen from Moseley GC who both carded 43 points totals.

The best performing ladies pairing were Ruth Kirchmeier and guest Janet Marlow, also from Moseley GC with an impressive 40 points score and former Ladies Captain Sally Fycun and her partner John McConalogue from Kidderminster GC being the best mixed pairing with 39 points.

Graham was grateful to Head Professional Tim Hall for his Tim Hall of School Sponsorship which covered the raffle and subsidiary prizes.

In March last year Mark Whitmore and Lorraine Fenner began their year in office as elected Captains of the men's and ladies sections at the Ross Golf Club.

In maintaining the club's tradition, which enables them to raise monies to 'help others' Mark and Lorraine agreed to work together in their respective endeavours so that a locally based and worthy charity might receive the maximum financial benefit possible.

Meghan Baker House (MBH) in Ledbury proved a stand-out choice and they raised £14,000 in just 12 months.

MBH deliver a weekly services to over 200 adults and children with neurological motor disorders such as Parkinson's, Cerebral Palsy, Dyspraxia, stroke and Multiple Sclerosis. Methods of conductive education (CE) are used which focuses on empowering individuals to improve their movement, sensory, and cognitive skills through structured, holistic learning experiences. CE emphasizes active participation, individualized goals, and a belief in the potential for growth and learning.

Mark and Lorraine were equally praiseworthy of the support they received from Ross members throughout their year, making special mention of the £655 donation from the Club's Course Manager, Dylan Stokes and his sponsors when Dylan took part in a Bath and Bristol Half-Marathon.

Also appreciated were the combined efforts of the Club's Seniors 55+ sections, and the £1,430 monies raised from raffles initiated in the two well supported Seniors Opens in their care.
