HEREFORD Pegasus Colts caused an upset when they defeated holders AFC Worcester 2-0 to lift the Zzoomm HFA Junior Cup at the SSAFA County Ground.
The recently crowned Herefordshire League First Division champions made a strong start to the final and will feel disappointed not to have taken advantage of one of the early goal scoring opportunities created inside the opening 20 minutes.
Pegasus broke the deadlock on 31 minutes when Jack Harding converted a penalty, that he won after being tripped by an AFC Worcester defender.
The Red Men had an opportunity to double their lead four minutes later when the AFC Worcester custodian was closed down by Jack Thomasson but Harding could only direct his ensuing shot straight at the goalkeeper.
The holders continued to enjoy the majority of possession after the interval but were unable to find a way past the Pegasus rearguard due to a combination of profligate finishing and some fine goalkeeping.
AFC Worcester struck an upright in the 68th minute before the Pegasus goalkeeper made a crucial save on the goal line.
Pegasus had a rare opportunity of their own, in-between the pair of chances for the holders, when Morgan Turnner ran on to a through ball but fired wide of the target from the edge of the penalty area.
AFC Worcester continued to push for an equaliser in the closing stages but were hot on the break in the fifth minute of stoppage-time when Harding raced on to a well-timed pass to net his second goal of the final.
Pegasus Colts captain Jamie bell received the trophy following the final whistle as his club continued their recent run of success in HFA competitions.
