ANDY WILLIAMS’ 11th goal of the season helped Hereford see off Warrington to keep their faint play-off hopes alive.

Lewis Hudson’s first goal in a Bulls shirt got the visitors off to a perfect start before Williams doubled their advantage just before half-time.

Josh Amis pulled a goal back for the hosts near the hour mark but it proved to only be a consolation as Hereford held on for three points.

Coming into the game the Bulls knew that only a win would keep them in the play-off hunt and they started on the front foot when Alex Babos almost tapped in the rebound from Williams’ shot after three minutes.

Hereford were ahead seven minutes later when Hudson won the ball off Andre Wisdom inside the box before firing into the left-hand side of Daniel Atherton’s net.

Paul Caddis’ side nearly extended their lead when Atherton trod on the ball following a back-pass with Williams close to pouncing but he recovered in the nick of time to claim.

Williams was involved once more in the 35th minute when he was played through on goal by Jid Okeke but Atherton was on hand to deny the striker and keep the deficit to one.

The Bulls would extend their advantage in the 43rd minute, though, when a counter-attack following Kyle Howkins’ clearance off the line saw Yusifu Ceesay pull the back for Williams in the box who netted.

Hereford were on the counter-attack again shortly after the break when Ceesay was played in behind the Warrington defence with his subsequent effort being tipped wide by the Warrington goalkeeper.

The hosts pulled a goal back after 56 minutes when Sean Williams found Amis inside the box who turned before curling the ball into the bottom corner of Pond’s net with a fine finish.

The Yellows continued to search for an equaliser with Dubem Eze releasing a powerful shot from the edge of the area in the 67th minute but Pond was on hand to make the save.

Warrington were reduced to ten men two minutes later when Matt Grivosti was shown a straight red for his lunging challenge on Hudson, leaving the hosts with an uphill task.

Hereford nearly added a third in the 86th minute when Jason Cowley’s acrobatic effort fizzed past the post, but a one goal advantage proved enough as they held on for all three points.
