HEREFORD Pegasus Ladies kicked-off 2024 with a dramatic late 3-2 victory over Rugby Town Girls & Women as Sarah Bishop netted the winner.

It appeared that the hosts would have to settle for a share of the points in the West Midlands Regional Women's League First Division (South) clash until Bishop netted from a 90th minute corner to see them move into third position in the table.

Pegasus broke the deadlock when captain Emily Morgan rose highest to head home from a fourth minute corner.

Despite a strong start from the home team, they were unable to increase their lead, and were punished for some slackness at the back when Rugby Town equalised eight minutes before the interval after having initially broke down the left during a swift counter-attack.

Pegasus regained the lead 16 minutes after the interval when Kaye Haggett converted a penalty awarded for a pull on Morgan as she drove into the penalty area.

It appeared the hosts had done enough to secure victory but Rugby Town pounced on some hesitancy at the back to net an equaliser past goalkeeper Katie Wood with five remaining on the clock.

However, there was further drama ahead for the spectators watching on at the KGD Stadium, with Bishop pouncing to score what turned out to be the winning goal, despite fervent appeals from the visitors for a handball in the build-up to the goal.

Hereford Pegasus take a break from league action next Sunday when they travel to AFC Telford United in the second round of the West Midlands Regional Women's League First Division Cup.

Meanwhile, Hereford FC Women were in fine form as they came away with an emphatic 11-0 win at Worcester United Belles FC.

Sheree Smith led the way with four goals and Martha Sharland scored a hat-trick as the Bullettes ran riot.
