TRAINER Venetia Williams has her horses in great form at present and another winner rolled off the production line at Hereford races on Thursday.

The meeting withstood the effects of Storm Henk, and the Herefordshire trainer saw Hill of Tara easily win the three-mile one-and-a-half-furlong handicap hurdle.

Jockey Charlie Deutsch kept things simple on the seven-year-old 4/7 favourite taking up the running early on the final circuit and drawing clear of his 10 rivals to win by an easy twenty five lengths with the Matt Sheppard trained Mactavish an honourable second.

Williams, after her 38th winner of the year and who is currently recording a win to runners ratio of 27 per cent said: “I’m delighted for him, I was toying with going chasing with him but we’ll probably keep him hurdling now for the rest of the season.”

Former Irish point-to-pointers were well to the fore all afternoon, most notably in both divisions of the two mile five and half furlong Mares Maiden Hurdle.

The first division included trainer and jockey combination Dan and Harry Skelton’s promising Lightening Mahler ran out an easy scorer on her jumps debut in division one the of 2m5½f mares' maiden hurdle.

The form of her Irish point to point had worked out well with all of the placed horses behind her winning subsequently and the well-backed 11-8 favourite looked worth the £72,000 she cost at the sales last May when she comfortably drew clear of her market rival Melusine De Pail.

The other division went to the Emma Lavelle-trained Kit’s Coty, who scored for the first time under rules when running away with division two of the mares' maiden hurdle under jockey Tom Bellamy.

The three-mile one-and-a-half-furlong handicap hurdle was won by the well fancied  Hill Of Tara.

Purchase for £170,000 from the Horses in Training sale Maasai Mara had to give best in the two-mile Juvenile Maiden hurdle to the odds-on favourite Goblet of Fire on the run-in.
