A HEREFORD squash player won his first regional title after playing on the England Squash Masters circuit for over 15 years.
Tom Burton, from the Hereford Squash Tennis & Racketball Centre, followed up his recent success in the Wales Squash Open Over 65s event by winning the England Squash Masters North of England event.
Burton, seeded three, beat England colleague Gordon McManus (Kent) 3-2 in the semi-final before going on to beat the Scottish number 1 and 2022 National Champion Robin Ridley 3-2 in the final.
The Hereford had player had match balls in the third to win 3-0. However, a controversial referee decision against Burton caused him to lose concentration and Ridley levelled the match at 2-2. The final game was nip and tuck with Burton holding out to win an epic battle 11-9 in the fifth game.
