LONG-STANDING Hereford Lads Club manager Danny Moon has stepped down from his position as first team boss.

Moon has been a key influence as Lads Club first team climbed up from the Herefordshire County League into the Hellenic Premier Division.

Lads Club also won the Herefordshire County Cup for the first time since 1974 when they beat Westfields 4-2 at Edgar Street in 2021.

The club released a statement which said: “Danny has been an integral part of this football club for more than two decades, and has played an immense part in the development of many local players during that time.

“During his time as first team manager, Danny has taken a side, with very little resources, from the Herefordshire leagues, to playing well established clubs in the Hellenic Premier Division, with his last match in charge being a fixture against Worcester City. This, in itself, shows the magnitude of the job that he has done at the club.

“Danny will be a huge loss to the football club, but we respect his decision to step aside on good terms.”

Lads Club chairman Mike Shaw also made a statement thanking Moon for his commitment to the club.

He added: “Danny will be a huge loss to our club and we can’t thank him enough for his enormous commitment over the past 25 years.

“We will honour Danny by supporting John (Haycox), Chris (Gwynne) and the players in every way we can to continue the pathway into adult football that Danny has built.”
