HORSE RACING

Jetoile, trained by Ryan Potter at Sellack, near Ross on Wye, provided the shock of the day at Aintree races on Sunday winning the Old Roan Chase.

In a race much handicapped with the omission of six fences due to the low sun Jetoile finished strongest on the long run in to take the prestigious Grade two prize.

Jetoile handled the half-mile run to the line after the last obstacle best of all to stay on strongly past Minella Drama in the closing stages under jockey Daryl Jacob and confirm his previous consistent form.

Based at part of the old Caradoc Court stables, once occupied by John Edward’s Potter was left to celebrate the biggest success of his burgeoning career with the 25-1 winner and he now has 25 horses for his third season training.

Commenting afterwards Potter said: "I'm under no illusions that a lot of these big yards will be using this race as a stepping stone, but I had him ready for today as I felt it was a great opportunity.”
