HEREFORD squash players came away with three titles from the Welsh Masters Squash Open in Cardiff.

Hereford Squash Tennis and Racketball Centre players graced the tournament and Nick Hyett playing in the over-45s age category managed to win his first match 3-0.

Hyett then had a tough second match with the second highest ranked player but came away with a 3-1 win. In his final match the Hereford squash player came out on top with another 3-0 win to win the over-45s crown.

In the 60s Rob Reid had an unfortunate first round draw against club mate Terry Prosser, he came away with a comfortable win.

Reid lost the first two games in his second match before fighting back to win 3-2 to clinch the over-60s title.

Meanwhile, after his tough opening game Prosser came away with a 3-1 win from his second match. In the Hereford player’s final match he started well, winning the first game, before going down 3-1.

Tom Burton in the over 65s was favourite for the title had just the one game on Saturday coming away with a comfortable 3-0 win.

Burton’s second match was against a good player and the Hereford favourite went 2-0 up before losing the third game.

Burton managed to find his focus in the fourth and came away with a good 3-1 win. In the final he started very well and was a comfortable winner 3-0 against Welsh Masters International player Ceredig Emanuel to win the over-65s.

The ladies over 40 were combined with the over 45, 50 and 55s. Katie Simpson had a tough first round match playing a much higher ranked lady and went down 3-1.

Her second match was against a very experienced player losing 3-0. On Sunday, Simpson played the only other over 40 lady entrant and after a really tough match she came away with a great 3-2 victory.
