A RAMPANT Westfields side climbed up to fourth in the Hellenic Premier after a 5-2 away win at Calne Town.

Westfields created a host of goal-scoring chances and took an early lead in the ninth minute when Jamie Bird blasted home from the edge of the box.

However, despite going close to increasing the lead it was the home side that hit back and drew level and after some good approach play Jamie Walters slid home the equaliser in the 37th minute.

Westfields hit back immediately and in the 40th minute Josh Hunt was awarded a penalty after being brought down when he was clean through on goal by Matthew Hudson who received a red card.

Hunt duly dispatched the penalty to put Westfields back ahead.

With Calne down to 10 men and struggling to keep pace with the quick-moving Westfields attack, the visitors increased their lead just on the stroke of half-time with Bird firing home a direct free-kick from the edge of the penalty area.

With Westfields 3-1 up at the break it looked as though an avalanche of goals would come in the second half.

However, it was not until the 61st minute that busy midfielder Harrison Iddles put Westfields 4-1 ahead and then five minutes later Dan Stoneman increased the lead to 5-1 as Westfields were in cruise control.

Calne did not give in and came back into the game when they were awarded a penalty in the 73rd minute which Derek Wheeler dispatched to give themselves some respectability.

Westfields are up into fourth position and next Saturday they travel away to Bristol-based Roman Glass for a league match and then return to allpay.park for the big Christmas derby when they face Lads Club on Monday, December 27, kick-off 3pm.

Elsewhere, Hereford Lads Club suffered a 4-2 home defeat to Longlevens.

Jamie Cuthbertson and Levi Ellis scored in the first half as the hosts led 2-0.

However, Ethan Dunbar scored a second half hat-trick for the visitors and Rudi Mckinnon the other as Longlevens were victors.

Hereford Pegasus maintained their promotion push in Division One with a 4-0 win at Moreton Rangers.

Mike Burgess and Matty James netted in the first half for Peggy before Toby Wildig scored twice after the break.

Playing on Friday night Kington Town played out a goalless draw at Evesham United Development.
