LUCTONIANS got the home win they desired when they ran out 17-11 victors over Bournville.

In front of a raucous home crowd a penalty try followed by scores from Giles Morell and Ben Owen secured a much-needed victory in

A cagey first half saw Bournville lead 3-0 at the break courtesy of an Owen Williams penalties.

Lucs continued dominance at the scrum in the second half and the driving runs from the home side’s forwards were beginning to take their toll on Bournville and they succumbed to many injury time outs.

The home side were duly rewarded when they were awarded a penalty try on 55 minutes as Bournville collapsed the scrum not for the first time when in the red zone.

Archie McCarthur taking the yellow card for the offences as Luctonians took a 7-3 lead.

Lucs young scrum half Owen Randell struggled from the kicking tee all afternoon and could have increased the lead when missing a penalty in front of the posts on 57 minutes.

The hosts were again unlucky when Charlie Grimes had a try ruled for double movement on the hour, and Bournville were now taking to kicking long balls downfield to ease the pressure on their line.

And from poor clearance into Lucs half they recycled the ball quickly through a Will Burton pass to full back Giles Morell, who was superb throughout, to race through from half-way to increase the home side’s advantage to 12-3 with 10 minutes left on the clock.

Williams reduced the margin a few minutes later from another penalty to make for a very tense finale at 12-6 with time running down.

And it was another fine driving run from Ben Owen who took the crash ball when again Lucs were driving deep into Bournville territory to increase their lead to 17-6.

And it looked all over as the game restarted and the hosts kicked to touch, only for the referee to announce there were still three minutes on the clock after having already played seven minutes extra.

This allowed Bournville to run in a late losing bonus point try from Ethan Walker as the last rites of what had been a very entertaining encounter.
