THREE years ago Presteigne squash team were granted special dispensation to play in the Herefordshire league despite being situated in Wales.
After two mid-table finishes in their first two seasons, at the half-way stage of their third season they are sitting on top of the table.
Team captain Tony Cox is delighted with the performance of his team.
Cox said: "Our players have improved each year and it's now got to the stage where I'm fighting to retain my place in the starting line up. We'll have to start a second team next year to make sure I still get a game!".
The team has benefited from the use of East Radnorshire Leisure Centre for its home matches and in return the leisure centre has seen an increase in the use of the squash courts with the popularity of squash rapidly growing in the area.
Presteigne, who are sponsored by a national pharmaceutical company, Ferring Pharmaceuticals and their VSL-3 brand, will be hoping for a strong finish to the season and hope to become the first Welsh winners of the Herefordshire Squash League.
