Greyhound 14pts Tredworth 8 GREYHOUND humbled leaders Tredworth in a High Bridge Jewellers Gloucester 3 top-of-the-table clash at the Racecourse.

The Hereford club pulled off a superb victory in a hard-fought match.

Greyhound's victory shattered the away side's unbeaten league record.

Greyhound opened the scoring in the first half when Pat Hill raced on to Harry Broughton's chip and touched down.

Hill added the conversion and Greyhound held a 7-0 lead at the interval.

High-flying Tredworth hit back in the second half with an unconverted try to cut Greyhound's lead to just two points.

Greyhound tried hard to respond but a strong Tredworth defence kept Lee Simpson out as he pressed for the line.

Tredworth then successfully kicked a penalty to go 8-7 ahead with just a quarter of the match remaining.

But Greyhound showed the resilience which has taken them into the promotion race.

Simpson powered over the line for Greyhound's second try and Hill added the conversion.

Tredworth stepped up the tempo towards the finish in an effort to maintain their unbeaten run.

However, the Greyhound defence held firm to keep out the visitors and claim an important victory in their bid for promotion.

Greyhound spokesperson Liz Peel said: "It was a very hard-fought game and a superb win. It keeps us in third position."

She added: "We had a few injuries before the game but the lads who came in coped well. "

Peel continued: "The whole team played well as a unit but Lee Simpson probably stood out and showed his battling qualities for our second try. When he scored, he took four opposing players over the line as well."
