A HEREFORDSHIRE goalkeeper has been called up to play in the England under-21s squad for their forthcoming 2021 UEFA European under-21 championship matches in Slovenia.

Josh Griffiths, aged 19, from Ledbury, is currently playing his football on loan at Cheltenham Town and has been one of League Two's standout goalkeepers.

It is only his first season as a professional after coming through the youth ranks at parent club West Bromwich Albion.

In total he has kept 18 clean sheets in 39 appearances in all competitions since joining Cheltenham on a season-long loan from the Baggies at the start of the season.

He joins England under-21 squad for the first time as they prepare to face Switzerland, Portugal and Croatia over a series of matches to be played in Slovenia between March 25 and March 31.

Earlier in the season Griffiths was a part of the England under-19s squad.
