A NEW youth football club is launching in Herefordshire.

Weston Youth FC has been welcomed by the local community with open arms.

The club starts the 2021/22 season with two established teams: an under-eights boys’ team and an under-13 girls’ team/.

However, the club has their sights on increasing this,

The managers and coaches cannot wait to welcome their players to the Weston Under Penyard grounds, which already feels like home.

This new youth football club has become a reality due to the unprecedented support from the parents and grandparents of the players, the numerous offers of sponsorship from local businesses, generous donations and grants, and a dedicated committee.

Sue Watkins has been elected president of the new club and her granddaughter plays in the under-13 girls' team.

"This is an exciting opportunity for all young grassroots footballers, boys and girls alike," she said.

"My connections with Weston-under-Penyard started at the age of six years old when I moved here, along with my family.

"My football journey continues, with just as much enthusiasm as 50+ years ago.

"I am delighted my granddaughter comes to the club in the U13 girls team to follow in Grandpa’s footsteps.

"I am inspired at the opportunity of being part of a dedicated group of parents who are determined to offer the greatest football experience at grassroots level a child could have.

"All within a safe, family and community orientated club."
