JOHN Masefield High School retained their titles as under-14 and under-16 School Games County Champions.
The Ledbury school were clear winners in both county finals and have been drawn at home in the regional stage of the competition where they will take on the best schools from the Midlands aiming for a place in the next round.
The under-14 county basketball final was contested between a strong John Masefield side and a willing Whitecross.
In a close first period Masefield took a 12-6 lead and then continued to grow the gap in periods two and three to 31-6.
In the final period Whitecross showed some great determination and clawed back a couple of baskets, but it was John Masefield who showed their class and finished up 47-10 winners.
Looking to make it a double for the Ledbury school in the under-16 county final John Masefield faced The Hereford Academy (THA).
Home advantage showed in a tight first period seeing John Masefield take a one-point lead.
In a game where the defences were always on top the Ledbury school led 13-9 at half-time.
Period three saw John Masefield start to pull away attacking on the break to lead 28-15.
John Masefield rolled the bench during the fourth period and a battling Academy side clawed back the deficit to win the period by a point, but the hosts ran out 40-28 victors.
Top scorer of the night was AJ Hammond, of John Masefield High School, with 20 points.
